Wimbledon 2011 Food hampers? and a little history of London Tennis...

The 125th CHAMPIONSHIPS CELEBRATIONS ARE UNDERWAY!

Now Wimbledon 2011 is in progress this year, it is the 125th time that The All Lawn Tennis Club has hosted The Championships since the first tournament in 1877... Which means that less than 20 minutes from Whisk Hampers HQ the most famous tennis event ever is underway...

The only event held in 1877 was the Gentlemen's Singles which was won by Spencer Gore, from a field of 22. About 200 spectators paid one shilling each to watch the final.

There were no Championships held between 1915-1918 and 1940-1945 due to both the First and Second World Wars.

Since then, many traditions with food and drink have begun, with Wimbledon we tend to immediately think of Strawberries and Cream. Wimbledon is an amazing event, with so many things to appreciate. I mean, we all love the juicy and delicious taste that Strawberries and cream leave on our tongue, the feeling of the beautiful warm sunshine on our skin, the look of the bright immaculately tidy green grass courts in our eyes, and the sound of the tennis ball being returned to the opponent, however it seems that some of the finer things have not been tasted, felt, heard or even seen anywhere near Wimbledon this year, yet...

Champagne and Caviar anyone? - Try not to taste or imagine the flavours of either right now...

We have a large selection of bubbles and beluga, sevruga and salmanazars - two of the most luxury ambrosial tastes known to man...
