whisk founder Paul Medhurst meets the makers:what goes on behind a blue door in Hammersmith | | I love my job and sometimes, such as the Tuesday morning a few weeks back when I visited a very unusual factory, I'm reminded just how lucky I am. I pulled back an unassuming bright blue door in a quiet residential street in Hammersmith and was introduced to Prudence. She was quite beautiful and very curvaceous, although clearly high maintenance. Prudence is, in fact, the first hand-built copper 'still' in London for 200 years and was lovingly christened by Sipsmith founders, Sam and Fairfax. Sipsmith (another unusual name: "we call ourselves 'sip-smiths' to celebrate the craft of distillation | | and our artisanal methods") use Prudence to craft and hone their premium spirits. The results of their alchemy are breath taking - A London Dry Gin with a zesty, citrus freshness and a smooth, buttery Barley Vodka with a light, nutty finish. After a visit to this incredible place, run by a team with such knowledge, passion and enthusiasm, Sipsmith's special spirits just had to form the basis of two of our new cocktail kits. So raise a glass to the Ultimate G&T Kit and The Magnificent Martini Cocktail Kit. Cheers! (and here's hoping for a decent summer...)
Best, Paul. | | | |

| this month we are enjoying...summer cocktails in the sun | | | The English summer is a legendary affair: we long for it though the dark days of winter, our excitement builds as the first bulbs push through the frozen earth, we relish the warmth of May days but it isn't until you sip your first Pimms of the season (smell that mint) that you know that summer has, at last, arrived...
