  • 'wine' quotation postcard

"quickly bring me a beaker of wine so that I may whet my mind and say something clever"
    aristophanes

  • 2006 promised land unoaked chardonnay, clare valley, australia 75cl

a beautifully judged chardonnay - balanced, ripe fruit on the palate, delightfully crisp finish. good with fish, shell-fish salads & white meats

  • 2007 sancerre 'la vigne blanche', domaine henri bourgeois, sance 75cl

from an acclaimed producer whose wines exhibit the complexity of the terroir of chavignol, being chalky with a touch of gunflint, initially steely, then ripening in the mouth with a broad array of fragrant currant and sherbet flavours

  • mini whisk tag

your message handwritten on a tag attached to a mini whisk keyring - click on 'view packaging' to see

  • 2005 donnhoff riesling, oberhausen, nahe, germany 75cl

this trocken (dry) riesling, made with grapes from a mixture of volcanic and slate vineyards, is pale straw coloured, has a lively citrus (lime) and mineral nose, and on the palate plenty of good crisp fruit and just the right amount of acidity to balance.

  • 2006 good hope pinot noir, stellenbosch, south africa 75cl

this pinot noir ticks all the right boxes. three individual vineyard sites were used in producing this wine, and each case, relative altitude and temperature play a key role. the vines are all dijon clones and french wine-making techniques are employed. each of the vineyards gives a particular component to the final blend - the darling hills fruit has typical earthy pinot character, the stellenbosch fruit displays wonderful raspberry flavours and the simondium fruit exudes a clean, mineral acidity.

  • 2004 rasteau prestige, domaine didier charavin, rasteau 75cl

a delicious wine with an expansive nose of roasted currants, warm meat and fresh coffee beans with a good slew of spice and mineral. develops in the glass to reveal fruits macerated in port, the mouth is enhanced and filled with flavours of plums and tobacco, the tannins are round and the whole experience is completed by a waft of secondary gamey aromas - a wine that would hold its own with many a top chateauneuf.

  • 2004 wakefield cabernet sauvignon, clare valley, australia 75cl

a generous cabernet with rich, fruit flavours of blackcurrant and cassis, along with subtle chocolate and mint. french oak maturation adds a toasty complexity

something else to consider ...
